The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery is delighted to announce a new chapter in its hospitality journey with the introduction of MANR, a fresh and dynamic food and drink concept led by local culinary talent Dan Murphy.

Following a successful tender process earlier this year, MANR is set to open its doors for full operation in early June, with an opening date set to be announced following an intense period of structural and cosmetic changes to the cafe.

Throughout the transitional period, across May The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery cafe area will be closed to the public; however, there will be a light lunch, snacks and drinks offer available in The Whitaker Old Stables and on the terrace (weather dependant).

Opening late May, MANR will debut as an elevated daytime café, offering high-quality, casual fare designed to be approachable yet refined. The café will emphasize fresh, seasonal ingredients with a strong local influence, creating an inviting space for museum visitors, families, professionals, and passersby.

Creative Director of The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery said: “We’re really excited about this next chapter for The Whitaker. Dan just fits—he understands the heart of what we’re trying to achieve here, and he brings with him not only innovation and energy but a deep connection to the local community. MANR will be something really special.”

Chair of The Whitaker Board, Iain Taylor said: “We have taken on board a wide range of feedback in recent years and I can honestly say that Danny’s approach is a great response to what local people have said we should do.  We know how important the Whitaker is to Rossendale and I look forward to MANR taking its place in the Valley and complementing our wonderful arts and culture programme.”

Owner and Creator of MANR, Dan Murphy said: “”I’m incredibly proud to bring MANR to life at The Whitaker. This place means a lot to me personally, and our goal is simple: to serve good food made with care, in a space that feels welcoming to everyone. We’re building something that reflects the creativity and character of Rossendale, and I can’t wait to open the doors.”

MANR promises to be a vibrant new addition to both The Whitaker and the wider Rossendale food scene, offering a communal, intimate experience that’s both relaxed and thoughtfully curated.

An official date for opening of the daytime cafe is set to be announced late May.
