The Whitaker Welcomes Acclaimed Actor Jane Horrocks to Patron Family

The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery is delighted to announce the appointment of its second Honorary Patron: celebrated actor Jane Horrocks.

This exciting news follows the recent naming of author Stacey Halls as the museum’s first patron, and marks another key step in The Whitaker’s growing advocacy campaign to strengthen its role as a cultural anchor in the region.

Jane Horrocks, known for her standout roles in Absolutely Fabulous, Little Voice, and Sunshine on Leith, brings with her a wealth of creative experience and a deep appreciation for the arts. Her Lancashire roots and continued support for regional culture make her a natural fit for this important role.

As an Honorary Patron, Horrocks will support The Whitaker’s mission to inspire, educate, and engage through its unique collection and vibrant programming. Her influence will help raise the museum’s national profile, attract new opportunities, and encourage broader community involvement.

Gaynor Seville, Creative Director of The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery said: “I am thrilled that Jane is joining us as a patron!  We have enjoyed working with Jane recently during our exhibition with Jamie Holman and it is wonderful to make our relationship permanent through becoming a patron of the museum and art gallery.  We are already in talks about working together on a special event next year and looking forward to that.  Having such a high profile actor support us means so much and is a real sign of how much the museum is loved and appreciated.

Jane Horrocks said: “I’m honoured to become a Patron of The Whitaker. It’s a museum close to my heart—not just because of its brilliant collection and programming, but because it represents the cultural soul of this area. I’m excited to be part of its journey and to help it reach new audiences.”

With the addition of Jane Horrocks, The Whitaker continues to build momentum in its campaign to champion the arts, connect with new supporters, and secure a thriving future for this much-loved museum.
