Join Our Board: Help Shape the Future of The Whitaker

Are you passionate about culture, heritage, and the Rossendale community?

The Whitaker Museum & Art Gallery is embarking on its next ambitious chapter, and we are looking for two dedicated individuals to join our Board of Trustees. Following a significant £2.2m redevelopment and our recent success in becoming a National Portfolio Organisation with Arts Council England, there has never been a more exciting time to get involved.

About The Whitaker

We are more than just a museum; we are a vibrant cultural hub dedicated to “exploring the past, meeting the present, and creating the future”. We bridge the gap between rich local heritage and contemporary visual arts, acting as a catalyst for positive development across the valley.

The Role

As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in our strategic leadership, ensuring we remain sustainable, inclusive, and impactful. You will help set our vision, monitor financial health, and advocate for The Whitaker within your professional networks.

We are specifically seeking individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Education and Schools
  • Legal
  • Arts, Culture, Heritage, or Museums
  • Business Performance and Fundraising

Diversity and Inclusion

We want our Board to reflect the diverse communities that call Rossendale home. We particularly welcome and encourage applications from young people, women, disabled people, and individuals from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities.

Commitment

  • Term: Three years (with the option for two further terms).
  • Meetings: Quarterly (four times per year), usually held on weekday evenings (6:30 PM – 9:00 PM).
  • Location: The Whitaker, Rawtenstall.
  • Remuneration: This is a voluntary role, but out-of-pocket expenses (such as travel) are reimbursed.
