To mark Easter and the coming of the new season, we’ve been hunting in our collection for items that symbolise the blooming of Spring.
Although we didn’t spot any Easter bunnies lurking in the collection, we did discover some beautiful eggs – which are a little different to the chocolate ones we’re used to at this time of year.
This Ostrich egg is painted with a hunting scene. Amusingly, the hunter is the loser on this occasion. The angry elephant chases him off whilst another hunter ducks behind some bushes.
We found another Ostrich egg too – this one is intricately painted with a silver tree and was kindly donated to The Whitaker in 1929 by T. Williamson.
We also found a range of bird’s eggs too – aren’t the colours lovely?
