Our aim is to make a positive contribution to the Whitaker with generous donations of time and funding from supporters.
In recent years over £50,000 has been raised through a variety of activities for conservation work; new equipment and refurbishment, schools projects and workshops; building enhancements; exhibitions and publicity materials.

We also promote a lively programme of monthly talks on a variety of interesting topics, organise summer guided walks and visits to other museums and historic buildings and we have an annual Christmas dinner.
The Friends also apply for grants on behalf of the Whitaker, this year for example raising £20,000 towards the new wheelchair lift with kind support from the Garfield Weston Foundation.
We’re looking for more people to join of all ages, young and old, to support an active interest for the whole community in historic Rossendale and keep culture alive in the area.
We are particularly keen to encourage new ideas on how we can all help develop and sustain the Whitaker for future generations to enjoy. Suggestions for new topics / speakers are welcome.
