Learning at The Whitaker

Diverse spaces to encourage curiosity and inspire imaginations.

Our learning offer is inspired by our diverse spaces, curious collections and creative exhibitions.

We promise to hook pupils’ curiosity and inspire imaginations whilst building upon their knowledge and understanding of cultural heritage and their place within it. We provide a safe place to make connects with the past and present, enabling our younger audiences to have a confident voice in creating our future.

Let Richard Whitaker tell you more…

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, all we ask is you book the space when you book your workshop / self-led session so we can make sure it is available.

Absolutely, all we ask is you book your visit in with us as we can only accommodate one class at a time in the museum. A member of staff will greet you and provide a quick orientation guide to the museum and provide your class with a map.

We are happy to say that the majority of our site is accessible but we do advise trip organisers to ring and/or visit the museum if any of your pupils have specific needs. You can also check our accessibility information on our website in the ‘Visit us’ section.

Our school programme is continually developing and we are always looking for new ways to support our schools. If you can’t see what you are looking for please email learning@thewhitaker.org and we will be in touch.

Yes, we certainly do! Our loan boxes have been developed in partnership with local teachers and artists and form part of our overall learning experience.

In addition, we are part of a wider educational partnership, Simply Schools, who offer a very comprehensive Loan Box hire service – more details can be found here – www.simplyschools.org.uk/lancashire/loan-boxes/
