Clothing shields us, shapes us, identifies us. It reveals and conceals. It communicates who we are, who we wish to be, and sometimes who we no longer remain. The forthcoming exhibition WORN invites audiences to explore garments not only as functional objects, but as storytellers bearing the marks of lives lived.
Clothes are worn: by necessity, with pride, through ritual, in rebellion. They protect from the elements and project identity. They intimidate, empower, seduce, and soothe. They can serve as armour in both literal and symbolic form, or become a camouflage when blending in feels safer than standing out. Within fabric, thread, and fastenings lies the extraordinary spectrum of human experience.
Clothing can ulitmatly become an archive of memory, shaped by the bodies it once embraced. Shoes remember footsteps. Gloves echo gestures. Hats linger like ghostly silhouettes of past selves. When people leave, clothes remain as tender evidence of presence, care, and identity.
Artist Bio
The artist collective Decorum has long been fascinated by the meanings held in material objects. WORN builds on these themes, examining nostalgia, identity, and the traces left behind.
Founded in 2017 by five artists united by a passion for experimental processes and material exploration, Decorum quickly captured public attention. With expertise spanning textiles, ceramics, print, photography, sculpture, and painting, Decorum blends diverse voices into a shared creative language. Decorum defines themselves by collaboration, curiosity, and reinvention.
WORN marks the next chapter in their continuing exploration of memory, materiality, and the deeply human stories stitched into what we wear.
