Lancashire New Graduate Award: Martha Lyons Haywood
Each year The Whitaker offers a new arts graduate from the area their first solo show with a fee and professional development support from our Creative Director.
Martha Lyons Haywood has been selected as the recipient of our New Graduate Award for 2022 and we are delighted to be exhibiting A blink without water.
Martha studied sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art and recently graduated with an MA in Fine Art from Listhaskoli Island (The University of the Arts, Iceland in 2022).
The New Graduate Award will provide a solo artist exhibition, which will open on 22nd December in Gallery 1 at The Whitaker. The artists also received an artists fee and access to professional development support from our Creative Director Gaynor Seville.
Martha is interested in investigating the contrast of the bright gallery spaces with the hidden spaces and history of the building, taking a journey through The Whitaker’s locality and the building itself.
