For the two new Whitaker commissions; The Old Entrance and The Banners, Tina Dempsey spent time exploring The Whitaker’s eclectic collections and the grounds in which it sits.
The resulting installations are a museum within the museum. Groups of responsive drawings, collages and sculptures are intermingled with objects from both The Whitaker and the artists personal collections.

The last two years of lockdowns and restrictions have concentrated Dempsey’s site-specific practice to the North West coast where she lives. Building a collection of natural and artist-made artefacts that offer a new viewpoint and understanding of the landscape.
The inland outing to the Whitaker offered a familiar vista with its beautiful collections of shells, rocks and fossils, and objects that continue to fascinate and intrigue her.
