Friends of Rossendale Museum: Mid Pennine Arts

Nick and Shonagh from Mid Pennine Arts will talk about Pendle Radicals, a hugely successful, volunteer-driven project that explores the long timeline of nonconformism, change-making and dissent in the area around Pendle Hill.  A hundred Radicals volunteer researchers have been inspired by stories including that of the first Quaker, the mill girl who reinvented herself as a celebrity writer, the punk moment in Lancashire and many more.

The Burnley-based MPA is Lancashire’s original arts charity, founded in 1966. Since then, MPA has originated a huge variety of creative projects, including the Panopticon's new landmarks that include Halo at Haslingden. But Pendle Radicals is something quite different.

Over four years, Pendle Radicals is producing a trail of discovery, themed Radicals walks, podcasts, songs, publications, and two spectacular exhibitions for the British Textile Biennial.  The MPA team will give you a glimpse of some of this, including an exclusive preview of their latest short film, which documents a tour by vintage bus for International Women’s Day.
