Film Night - The Eagle Huntress

The Eagle Huntress

Thirteen-year-old Aisholpan trains to become the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle huntress. A tradition normally handed down from Father to Son. The film captures her personal journey while also addressing universal themes of female empowerment, the natural world, coming of age, and the onset of modernity, but its focus on family ends and our relationship with the natural world makes the file truly affecting.

The Eagle Huntress is a remarkable documentary, one that combines superb National Geographic style photography with a story line that plays out like a real life folktale with a feminist undertone
