An Evening of Shigin and Japanese Arts

Shigin and Japanese Art

Here at the Whitaker we are delighted to welcome The International Association for Japanese Traditional Culture Exchange, who will be joining us on Saturday 24th November.

On the evening the performers, all from Kumamoto in Western Japan will be entertaining guests with Shigin and arts performances.

Shigin, a genre of traditional Japanese music from 1500 years ago, will be sung with a variation of the following performances:

  • Bamboo sword demonstration

  • Calligraphy

  • Martial arts

  • Japanese chorus

  • Tea ceremony

  • Flower arrangement

  • Japanese Kimono demonstration

  • Folk dancing

Each performance lasts around 3 minutes and during the course of the evening there will be around 7 performances in the first half, with a short interval serving Japanese inspired ‘tapas style’ dishes followed by a further 6 in the second.

Tickets are limited so please do not hesitate to book onto this exceptional event and get a taste of Japanese culture right here in Rossendale.

The cost is £5 per person food included and can be booked online using the link above.
