Alan Birch has been running regular printmaking classes at his studios in Manchester and Rossendale since 1993. Over 300 people have tasted the magic of printmaking, many achieving success in regional and national exhibitions and being excepted for the Royal Academy of London.
Many artists attending Alan's workshops have become regulars, printing at Prospect Studios once a month, with some also progressing to establishing their own studios, organising exhibitions and running creative classes.
Alan runs his classes from Prospect Studios in Waterfoot near Rawtenstall, a space with professional artists working alongside beginners, and the atmosphere is both friendly and supportive. Alongside Alan, the studios are also home to artists Liam Spencer and Jill Randall.
For the exhibition at the Whitaker, artists have produced prints on the theme of 'The Pennines', mirroring the work of Liam Spencer on the theme of Rossendale. Many artists have visited locations and landmarks within the Pennine region taking photographs and producing drawings. Other artists have used the theme as a starting point for more imaginative works. Artists have employed a range of techniques, including etching, aquatint, drypoint, relief, chine-colle, mono print, and gel print. Most of the prints are printed in an edition and all works are for sale.
'The Pennines' exhibition will be on display on the 1st Floor landing from 21st April to 17th June 2018. Free entry, all welcome.
