Film Night - Aquarius

Aquarius.jpg

Clara, a retired music critic, is the last resident of the Aquarius, one of the few buildings of age and character that remains in a rapidly changing seaside neighbourhood.  The other apartments have been bought up by a company with ambitious plans for redevelopment, but Clara is determined not to lose her home and is prepared to fight. Kleber Mendonça Filho switches from Recife’s gated high rises to its small-time beachfront with this eloquent saga.

Wonderfully evocative of time and place, this considered assault on Brazil’s economic and ethical crises revolves around a majestic performance by Sonia Braga
