In the UK, 'Refugee Week' is a nationwide programme of arts, culture and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK, and encourage a better understanding between communities.
This year at the Whitaker we’ll be celebrating ‘Refugee Week’ and ‘The Great Get Together’ with a great picnic for the whole community on Sunday 23rd June from 12pm to 5pm.
The afternoon of celebration will include international & local music, dancing, food, children’s entertainment, cultural exchange and much much more!
There will also be an exhibition in The Whitaker of pictures by children from local schools who have been drawing what friendship looks like to them.
Try free samples of food from cultures new to the valley, bring your own picnic to enjoy in the park grounds if you like, or purchase a plate of festival food prepared by our Head Chef and his team (festival plates £8 per adult, £5 per child or £25 per family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children).
The event is FREE to attend, join in and watch any of the entertainment.
You can support the festival's aims by coming along to welcome and support refugees in our valley. We hope to see you there.
