This workshop will run over two days and you should be available to come to both events, choose between 2 dates for workshop 1 and then return for workshop 2 . On the first afternoon you will learn about where clay comes from and then build and decorate your own pot which will then be dried for two weeks. They will then pour in a mixture of Plaster of Paris to produce a tile.

The dry tiles can be left unadorned or be painted (pending time). But children will be left with a lasting momentum of the wonderful world of nature that grows around them.

OverProject 234.png

Date: Friday 9th August / 1pm - 4pm (SOLD OUT)

An opportunity to try your hand at a traditional printmaking technique. Cyanotype printing uses light sensitive paper, sunlight, water and a little bit of magic to make beautiful Prussian blue prints.

This is always a very popular workshop and we have great delight in welcoming Artists Angela Tait & Neil Clegg back to the Whitaker to lead this enchanting workshop.

Children will start with a short age appropriate introduction before they head off collecting materials from nature (leaves, twigs stones etc from outside) before returning to commence exposing and developing the cyanotypes.

This 'traditional' method of printing was invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842, and has the merits of being cheap, easy, and substantially non-toxic. It is suitable for newcomers to alternative processes and can be placed in the hands of children.

Tickets cost £3.50 per child. Suitable for ages 4 - 11 (ages 4-7 must be supervised)

Book making and field notes workshop

Date: Wednesday 21st August / 1pm - 3pm (LAST FEW PLACES)

During this workshop children will learn how to craft a beautiful journal to keep and use in our later Summer activities. During the day after making their books children will then head in to the park to make observational field notes on the local wildlife. Children will learn how to create an accurate written record of their field activities, park investigations, observations and thoughts, and encouraged to record everything in a very detailed manner so they may return at a later time should they wish to observe changes over time.

This beautiful workshop is the first in a set of 3 final activities for children over the Summer. Each of which can be booked separately or as a whole.

Tickets cost £3 per child. Suitable for ages 4-11 (ages 4-7 must be supervised)
